Family member of U.S. citizen could fit into one of the following preference categories:
- Unmarried sons or daughters over the age of 21,
- Married children of any age, or
- Brothers and sisters of U.S. citizen
Please note, Visas are ALWAYS available for immediate relatives of U.S. citizens (spouse, children (unmarried and under 21) and parents). This means immediate family member does NOT need to wait in line for a visa.
Preference categories apply to family members who are not immediate relatives. The visas allotted for these categories are subject to annual numerical limits. A visa becomes available to a preference category based on the the date the Form I-130 was filed.
